Guayacán de Oro

It was created through Article 114 from the Organic Law of Environment. It is a gold medal with an engraved Guayacán tree, which symbolizes the persistent fight to improve the environment.  This prize may be issued to any person, physical or juridical, national or foreigner, whose work in the commercial, industrial, scientific, technical, among others, has effectively contributed to the environment improvement.

We were issued this prize in 1996 as an acknowledgement to the reforestation tasks performed by our students which imply planting more than 27,000 trees along 25 years.

"The Blue Flag Flies at St. Jude School "

The Ecological Blue Flag Program (Programa Bandera Azul Ecológica) offers awards since 1996 to beaches, communities, natural protected areas, micro-basins and enterprises which take actions to face the climate change.

In 2004, the Ministry of Public Education implemented this program in schools in order to organize teachers, students, and administrative staff to encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly practices through constant improvement of hygienic conditions in their facilities, campaigns to protect natural resources, programs on environmental education, and the inclusion of the school into the community concerned.

In 2009, St. Jude School seriously committed with this program and fulfilled not only its basic requirements, but also implemented campaigns for the environment protection and campaigns to encourage a sustainable development including a complete plan of attention to emergencies and a campaign on classification and recycling of solid waste. As a result of this actions, St. Jude School reached the maximum recognition of the Ecological Blue Flag Program with three stars.  This is a yearly based program, and we fulfilled all the requirements in 2010 as well to achieve the prize once again. While waiting for the results, the institution is getting ready to develop the program during 2011.
