We are the first educational center in Latin America listed as “athletic friendly,” a distinction awarded by the World Academy of Sport.

The AFEC School (Athletic Friendly Education Center) accreditation is a recognition that allows us to couple the curriculum with those students’ needs highlighted in some discipline. Our Case V program’s acronym means Cultural, Arts, and Academics Sports Eligibility Vikings Program, so this program expands this opportunity to athletes and those who excel in art and music.

Besides, this international accreditation opens the opportunity for St. Jude School student-athletes to have support and training from specialists in different fields and various schools worldwide. This aspect extends to their coaches.

UNESCO SCHOOL/PEACE MAKERS

As part of UNESCO’s Network of Associated Schools, our PeaceMakers program was born to empower leaders within the generation of students who learn to resolve conflicts and use their influence to create a peace culture within the institution. This program fosters students to develop UNESCO values, including fundamental rights and human dignity, gender equality, social progress, freedom, justice and democracy, respect for diversity, and international solidarity.

We promote, in practice, international understanding, peace, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development, and quality education through this program.

FAB LAB

Certification granted by the Fab Foundation.

Our Fab Lab laboratory is a place to play, create, mentor, and invent: a place for learning and innovation. The Fab Lab at St. Jude School works as creative training for students, developing the entire creation process: conception of an idea, design, prototyping, evaluation, improvement, and construction of a product.

It also provides access to the environment, the skills, the materials, and the advanced technology to allow anyone to make (almost) everything.

CGS

The CGS Department focuses on providing integrated support to all students at the institution. Professionals in Psychology, Psychopedagogy, Guidance, and Special Education are part of this department and collaborate to offer students a unique service according to their needs. The department collects information that allows for the analysis and evaluation of data regarding improvement and the students’ educational needs, and their abilities and skills to enhance them. This department also implements different prevention initiatives, both in the academic, social, and emotional aspects, which benefit all children and young people who make up our student community.

Vision: The CGS Department expects students to achieve academic, social, and emotional success.

Mission: The mission of the CGS Department is to guarantee the necessary support for attention to the diversity of the population. Knowledge of the personal and academic needs of students is vital in order to offer the appropriate services.

We are a dynamic learning community that aims to inspire the best in everyone, allowing our students to reach their true potential. Our comprehensive and challenging curriculum is designed to help our students excel, ensuring that they are ready for the next stage of their academic career.

At International St. Jude School, we focus on developing amazing experiences for our students to present unique learning every day. Through our new international programs, students will build their attributes from a global perspective.

Our curriculum nurtures our students’ minds and hearts, emphasizing academic skills focusing on community service and leadership to ensure safe and caring individuals.

Our classroom learning inspires students to challenge the status quo, take intellectual risks, and think independently. We also offer students a wide range of opportunities to find and follow their strengths, including an impressive range of co-curricular activities, sports, clubs, field trips, charity work, student ambassador roles, and volunteering.

AMAZING LEARNING

Learning is wondering how the world works, and through amazing experiences, getting better to create a positive impact.

At International St. Jude School, we focus on developing amazing experiences for our students to present Amazing Learning every day. Through our new international programs, students will develop their strengths from a global perspective.

Our students can currently identify amazing learning moments and express when they feel they are not learning or advancing in it. The teacher can focus more on strategies to put students’ minds to work in a personalized way.
Assessment is maintained on an ongoing basis, and there is a strong link between school and home.

50 YEARS OF HISTORY

International St. Jude School is one of the most recent educational institution projects that has been educating children for more than 50 years with strong Christian values. Our first schools were: Jardín de la Infancia Católico, Escuela Católica Activa, and Colegio San Judas Tadeo.

These schools were the product of many hard-working years of Mrs. Helia Plasencia de Betancourt and Mrs. Hortensia Esquivel de Luconi, two visionaries of Costa Rican education.

Mrs. Helia Placencia de Betancourt and her family arrived in Costa Rica in 1961 from Cuba during the Revolution on that island. In her home country, she was the Director of the Education School for Elementary Teachers in Holguin. In Costa Rica, she became the first secular guide in the prestigious school Nuestra Señora de Sión.

In 1963, she started a small kindergarten, which later became Escuela Católica Activa. As the number of students increased, and the need for a bigger space became obvious, Mrs. Helia Betancourt became partners with Mrs. Hortensia de Luconi, owner of a large property in Barrio Don Bosco, in San Jose, where the school could grow. They worked hard to make their dream come true. More than fifty years later, the Jardin de la Infancia Católico, Ecuela Católica Activa, and Colegio Bilingue San Judas Tadeo have educated thousands of children and teenagers with academic excellence and firm Christian values.

Intending to develop an innovative educational project, in 1992, they purchased a piece of land in Lindora, Santa Ana, a growing community in the metropolitan area with optimum conditions of security and beautiful surrounding areas, to develop a new teaching-learning concept. They founded a new school that today offers: Daycare, Preschool, Elementary and High School of the highest educational level: International St. Jude School.

In the year 2000, the new Preschool was inaugurated as International St. Jude School. In 2001, the Elementary School began, and five years later, in 2006, High School started, all as part of a planned growing process.

It is important to note that the school continued to work simultaneously in their old building in San Jose and their new home in Lindora, Santa Ana. In 2008, both schools were finally united into one single project, International St. Jude School.

International St. Jude School is an educational community where the tradition blends in with the most innovative psycho-pedagogy techniques and strengthens English and Spanish learning. Furthermore, the languages are complemented with French and Mandarin. We offer Humanities, Sciences, Technology, arts, and sports.

FACILITIES AND TECHNOLOGY

At International St. Jude School, we offer the right equipment to help our students develop their CT (Computational Thinking) and CS (Computer Science) skills.

In our Robotics Lab, students use tablets and computers to learn about the importance of coding; they design and create their robots with Lego WeDo, Ev3, Makey Makey, Dash, and Dot.

The Computer Science Lab develops their critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Using the Design Process, students design and create their projects in the laser cutting machine and prototypes using several programs such as Sketch, Illustrator, Tinkercad, and others in the 3D printer.

We are part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), a global group of 47 schools, which ensures outstanding international learning connections, quality assurance and excellent governance. Being part of ISP also provides our high school students with unique opportunities for learning and collaboration, such as the Global Model United Nations, Buddy Exchange Program, Virtual Buddy Exchange Program, Summer Programs in USA, International Competitions, such as Chess, Film and Sustainability Programs and much, much more!
